How To Fix Scratched Sunglasses

How To Fix Scratched Sunglasses?

Removing scratches from sunglasses and glasses lenses can be a very difficult thing to do. Maybe they got scratched in your hand bag or scuffed in the car? There are a few household items that the internet says will help remove scratches from sunglasses, so we're here to bust some myths!

Here at Reglaze Specs we have tested every method we could find online so you don't have to. We took into account the time taken, overall finish and longevity of each method. Also, the kind of money you would have to shell out to get your desired look! So without further ado, here is our definitive guide to how to remove scratches from lenses.

TOOTHPASTE

Yep, that's not a typo. Toothpaste. There seems to be a trend floating around the very darkest parts of the internet that rubbing toothpaste on your scratched glasses will miraculously clear them of the scratches. We tried it and unsurprisingly, it didn't work. Whilst a cheap tube of toothpaste will only set you back £1 or so, the subsequent clean-up of your glasses just isn't worth it!

VEHICLE CLEANING WAX

This is one absolute sure fire way to remove scratches from glasses...providing you never want to see through them ever again. We used a branded wax (won't name and shame) to test this out, setting us back around £20. After following a hack we found online, it did initially appear to make a difference. Upon closer inspection, however, we found that the wax had merely filled the cracks and made the lenses forever cloudy and un-useable. Definitely not the way to go!

BAKING SODA

This was an easy one to test as we happened to have some in the kitchen! So officially this cost us nothing more than our time to test out. Mixing the baking soda with a little bit of water and rubbing it into the lenses might feel like you're doing something, but in reality it didn't help the relatively light scratches we attempted this on. It won't damage your glasses any further, but it's not a solution.

REGLAZING

We know, we know. But having tried some of the internet's most popular methods of removing scratches from sunglasses, the only sure fire way we can say it will work, is reglazing your glasses. Starting at just £5, you can get brand spanking new lenses that have incredible vision clarity and none of the mess!

Honestly, before you go out and buy weird and wonderful chemicals to try and fix your scratched glasses, just see how little it could cost you to have them professionally reglazed.
